Gaming sector to create 1 lakh direct, indirect new jobs by next year
The gaming industry is projected to generate 100,000 new direct and indirect employment opportunities by the fiscal year 2023-24, according to a report from technology staffing firm TeamLease Digital. The report emphasizes the growing job prospects within the gaming sector and its rapid expansion.
Currently, the industry employs approximately 50,000 individuals directly, with programmers and developers constituting 30% of the workforce. Over the next year, the industry is set to create jobs in various domains, including programming (game developers, unity developers), testing (gaming test engineering, QA lead), animation (animators), design (motion graphic designers, virtual reality designers), artists (VFX, concept artists), and other miscellaneous roles (content writers, gaming journalists, web analysts).
Titled ‘Gaming: Tomorrow’s Blockbuster,’ the report also notes a significant increase in the involvement of women, accounting for over 40% of the gaming audience. The industry anticipates a notable surge in the number of women in the workforce, with more of them assuming leadership positions.
India currently ranks sixth in terms of revenue among the world’s largest gaming market indices. The sector is poised to attract Foreign Direct Investment of approximately Rs 780 crore by FY 2023-24, and stakeholders are actively working to establish refined policies governing the ecosystem.
To secure a position in the gaming sector, candidates should possess qualifications ranging from a BCA in software and a diploma in 3D, 2D, Animation, VFX to an MTech or BTech in IT and a diploma in specialized languages such as C++, Java, and DevOps.
Regarding salaries, the most lucrative roles include game producers, game designers, software engineers, game developers, and QA testers.
